UN Secretary-General António Guterres told journalists at the Rafah border crossing into Gaza that it is time for a ceasefire and for an “ironclad commitment by Israel” to allow unhindered aid deliveries into the besieged enclave as he began his annual Ramadan solidarity trip on Saturday with planned visits to Egypt and Jordan.

Hundreds of trucks carrying aid for Gaza were lined up in a long queue at the Egyptian side of the Rafah border crossing. Drivers and volunteers, many of them waiting for more than a week at the border, were having their lunches on carpets next to the trucks in the evening sunlight on Thursday.
Gaza’s sole border crossing with Egypt, the only entry point not controlled by Israel, has been hit again by an Israeli air raid, reports say.
Egypt’s authorities affirmed, Monday that the Rafah border crossing still remains open from both sides to allow the crossing of stranded passengers and humanitarian cases on both sides.
